Dr Ronwyn van Eeden

Specialist Physician and Medical Oncologist

MBChB (UP), FCP(SA), Cert Med Onc(SA)

Dr. Ronwyn van Eeden is a Medical Oncologist in Rosebank, Johannesburg. She is also an honorary consultant in Medical Oncology at the Chris Hani Academic Hospital.

She did her undergraduate degree at the university of Pretoria, followed by her internship at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and did her community service year in Potchefstroom. She then went on to specialise in Internal Medicine at the University of Witwatersrand and her fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.

Dr. van Eeden then started  working in private practice since 2016. She is kind and compassionate oncologist, who focuses on the patient’s journey. On the academic side, Dr. van Eeden and has several peer review journal publications, presents at many local and international meetings and symposia and serves on local advisory boards. She is a member of the executive committee for the South African Society of medical Oncology. She has a special interest in breast and lung cancer as well as immuno-oncology.

Melissa, is the ‘go-to’ of our practice, where compassion meets efficiency. With over a decade of experience in the medical field, Melissa embodies the essence of care and dedication. As our Practice Manager, Melissa’s nurturing spirit ensures that every step of our patients’ journeys is met with comfort and ease. From coordinating with specialists and handling administrative tasks, Melissa’s meticulous attention to detail keeps our practice running seamlessly. Working closely with Dr. van Eeden & Dr Omar, Melissa serves as a guide for patients and their families, providing unwavering support and understanding every step of the way. Her compassionate heart and endless patience make her not just a manager, but a trusted friend and confidante. Melissa’s commitment to excellence is evident in her certification in Medical Practice Management, a testament to her ongoing pursuit of knowledge and dedication. Dr. Sophia Omar

Dr. Omar’s medical journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to patient care. Graduating with distinction in 2005, she initially focused on HIV/AIDS, making significant contributions to patient care and public health. Venturing into trauma and emergency medicine, she earned respect for her ability to provide effective care under pressure. Seeking deeper connections with patients, Dr. Omar established her own GP practice in KwaZulu-Natal. But her passion for oncology led her to Gauteng, where she immersed herself in clinical oncology for two years in Klerksdorp. At the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, she spent three years in the Radiation Oncology Department, known for her empathy and understanding of patients’ needs. Currently on the verge of completing her specialty in radiation oncology, Dr. Omar’s dedication to excellence in patient care remains steadfast. With her cheerful demeanor and calming presence, she continues to positively impact the lives of those she serves, embodying the values of compassion and professionalism.
Shannon Barker

Shannon is the friendly face and calming presence at the heart of our practice. With her warm smile and reassuring demeanor, Shannon ensures that every patient feels welcomed and cared for from the moment they walk through our doors. As our dedicated receptionist, Shannon is not just the first point of contact for our patients; she’s also the go-to person for any question or task that arises. Whether it’s scheduling appointments, assisting with paperwork, or providing information, Shannon’s extensive knowledge and can-do attitude ensure that no request goes unanswered. Behind her calm exterior lies a motivated and determined individual who approaches each task with love and dedication. Bramble was previously a teacher and special needs educator, so has a lot of experience in being patient and kind and supportive. She is also a registered counsellor. Since retiring, she has been assisting as an oncology receptionist for her daughter, Dr. van Eeden for the past 5 years. Bramble thus assists with pride and the determination to make the practice run the best it can be. She assists with making appointments and dealing with queries in a loving and attentive manner.

Leoné is a pharmacist whose journey has taken her through a variety of pharmacy settings, from hospital wards to retail counters, even reaching unexpected places like correctional facilities and the Phelophepa train. Throughout her career, she’s embraced values of willingness, compassion, and genuine care, shaping her interactions with patients. Her motto, “Use your smile to change the world and don’t let the world change your smile,” reflects her belief in the power of positivity amidst life’s challenges. She takes pride in crafting personalized treatments for each patient, collaborating closely with our nurses to provide comprehensive support and education throughout their oncology journeys.

Currently, she’s on a heartwarming journey towards her palliative nursing certification, driven by her unwavering dedication to providing tender care to those in need. Nestled in our treatment room alongside the caring presence of Sr. Mandy, she offers comfort and compassion, ensuring each patient receives nothing short of extraordinary care. With a gentle touch honed through experiences in oncology, ICU, highcare, and paediatrics, she embodies the essence of diligence and empathy. Renowned for her tireless efforts and willingness to lend a helping hand wherever it’s needed, she touches hearts and heals souls.
